Automotive Electrical Design Engineer

One of the most successful vehicle manufacturers in the UK now has an opportunity for an experienced Automotive Electrical Engineer with good experience of product design. Based in Swindon, commutable from Reading, Bristol, Bath, Oxford, Cheltenham.
To provide technical capability for development, production and quality of automotive parts/systems, supporting the Electrical Engineering Dept. The role will involve model development, working on special editions up to future full model derivatives. Activities and responsibilities will include:

• Modification of global part design for local manufacture
• Value Engineering and Cost Down idea generation and implementation
• Vehicle and parts teardown and benchmarking analysis
• Research into latest technology and applications
• Design and development of Electrical parts including Electrical distribution, Lighting, ICE, Navigation, Security systems, Telematics and Connectivity
• Cost, weight and technical feasibility analysis
• Drawing creation, modification, check and release
• Localised parts development and maturation for Honda Factories in UK and Turkey
• Competitor parts analysis
• Confirmation of SPEC test reports and analysis of HRE internal test results
• Market Quality concern investigation and countermeasure instigation
• Monitor and research, industry trends of new Electrical and IT technology
• Occasional travel overseas will be required
  Candidate requirements:
• Ability to direct and oversee Electrical system and part development
• Wiring harness and control unit experience would be especially useful
• Research skills with the ability to report information relating to Electrical
• Be proactive and demonstrate high level of self motivation to deliver results
• An adept communicator, be able to build good relationships across all cultures both internally and externally
• CAD experience (CATIA V5 usage) is preferable
• Previous automotive OEM or Tier-1 experience is desirable but not essential
• Competence in Japanese or a European language is desirable but not essential
