Contract Design Engineer

£20 - 24 per hour

Client supplies axles/suspensions to truck and trailer manufacturers around the world.

They currently have a requirement for a Design Engineer on a 6-12 month contract basis to prepare designs and issue drawings, specifications and parts lists to support production programmes and new product development plans.

Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the individual will be responsible for the following:

- Create and maintain part, assembly, and general arrangement drawings using Solidworks Computer Aided Design (CAD)
- Carry out feasibility studies, installation checks, reviews and calculations for each design (own and other Engineers)
- Initiate and participate in Design Review, Design for Manufacture and Design for Assembly processes
- Define part numbers and assembly structures for input into Bills of Materials (BoMs)
- Select, evaluate, and apply proprietary components for assemblies and systems
- Liaise with Test and Development department to ensure that all necessary testing is undertaken.
- Create and complete Product Change Requests (PCRs) and Engineering Change Notes (ECNs)
- Liaise with internal departments and customers
- Assist in initiating and maintaining relationships with external suppliers

- Timely and accurate completion of projects
- Ability to interpret customer needs and provide information within set deadlines

 

Role Requirements:

- Bachelors degree in Mechanical / Automotive Engineering with a minimum of 5 years experience
- Familiarity with the automotive (truck/trailer) industry gained in a similar or related business
- Competent in general design/draughting and CAD work - Solidworks experience essential
- Basic FEA skills and ability to carryout basic engineering calculations
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work within a project management environment
- Automotive market knowledge required
- Experience with using CATIA v5 preferred but not essential
