This company leads the world in integrated engine and powertrain solutions from clean sheet design concept through castings, manufacture and vehicle installation to calibration, onboard diagnostics and telemetry.

They are now looking to appoint a Principal Thermodynamic Engineer to lead engine development project work, with particular emphasis on gas-exchange systems, combustion system development and thermodynamic analysis. Further more, to help guide the company`s future development and direction in improving IC engine efficiency and specific performance.

Duties

  • Plan and lead engine performance and efficiency development programs
  • Lead and conduct detailed analysis of test results
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations and papers
  • Supervise project teams either individually, or for larger programs under the direction of a project manager.
  • Liaise effectively with internal and external customers and program suppliers
  • Help develop and guide company technical capability and future direction as an Automotive Consultancy
  • Responsibilities
  • Delivering high-quality data analysis and recommendations
  • Ensuring test data, results analyses and reporting are accurate, relevant and on time
  • Updating company database information and extracting relevant trend information
  • Adhering to or seeking deviation for relevant development procedures, and helping to develop new procedures where required
  • Feeding back test results to the internal and external customer in a timely manner

Qualifications Engineering Degree or HND. Professional qualifications as appropriate

Skills and Experience

  • Extensive experience in gasoline engine development is required. An understanding of the requirements of diesel and alternative fuels is strongly desirable
  • Considerable relevant experience of automotive performance and efficiency development processes
  • Experience of testbed measuring systems and data interpretation
  • An understanding of 1-D simulation benefits and limitations would be an advantage

    Competencies
  • A thorough understanding of IC engine operating principals
  • A good understanding of current market trends and direction for future powertrain development
  • A systematic and logical approach to fault-finding and problem resolution
  • Ability to work on own and as part of a team
  • Confidence to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Self motivated with the drive to complete tasks in a timely manner with appropriate attention to detail
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to strict time constraints
  • Flexibility with working hours and willingness to travel to customer sites
